Town leaders give go-ahead for new subdivision near Glen Laurel

CLAYTON – Despite pleas from some residents, town leaders approved on Monday a new subdivision off Vinson Road.

The Woods at Glen Laurel is slated to have 52 lots. A day-care center is set to open on the property, Norwood Thompson of the Walthom Group in Clayton said. Another building on the property could house office space, he said. The development will be located next to Glen Laurel subdivision.

Three local residents asked the Town Council to consider their concerns – more traffic, more noise and a precedent for approving more housing.

Councilman Michael Grannis said he sympathized with local residents, but he voted in favor of the new development. The final vote was 4-1 in favor. Councilman Alex Harding cast the only dissenting vote.
